A few weeks ago everyone in Austria was asked to wear masks when grocery shopping. And shortly after it became mandatory to wear them when shopping, on public transport and around other people if you are inside.
Since most of the masks that shops sell are disposable ones and shouldn’t be worn multiple times, I decided to wear reusable masks made out of fabric instead. I didn’t want to contribute to the waste by using the single-use masks and so I started sewing my own cotton masks. I sewed some masks for my family, my friends and myself. I’m by far no expert and I hadn’t touched a sewing machine in years, but it was actually a lot of fun. So I thought I’d share my work with you!
What you need:
- Two 19x24cm pieces of cotton fabric
- Elastic that fits around your ears
- Yarn, sewing machine and pins

To reuse the mask, make sure you wash it long and hot enough to get rid of all the bacteria and virus. You can either boil it for a few minutes in a pot on your kitchen stove or wash it in the washing machine at 60°C minimum!
I hope you liked this blogpost and maybe I managed to inspire you to create your own masks. Stay safe everyone! 😷💕
Love, Stefanie 💕
